Buried beneath the Uk’s busiest rail station, Clapham Junction, lives an under-privileged, inner-city community.
The oblivious commuter trains above, juxtapose a world of diverse ethnicities below. Thrift shops and bus stops give shelter in the rain. The ever-present homeless near the station. Passenger stress and delays. I wanted to show these new raw facets to this former Saxon hamlet.
For a few years, this area was my home. I was drawn back to tell two intersecting stories. First, the peaceful co-existence of Afro-Caribbean, Islamic and a growing contingent of metro residents. Second, the passenger turmoil and delays around this transport mothership. I elected to shoot in moody and wet weather to add to the drama.
The Junction – A crossing-point for all people.
