By the time you view this ebook, you may well have been cowering behind the sofa in the hope that the US Election psycho-drama has finally left town.
This project started with a documentary on the UK 2024 Election through the lens of a strategic voting district - Clacton. The idea grew to contrast this with the US 2024 Election. I chose to focus on Atlanta* in the swing state of Georgia. Georgia and its key districts around Atlanta became a political hotbed after the 2020 election when Trump pressured to find more votes (hold that thought for later).
So I had 3 tense days around Atlanta, supplemented with a few days in districts in Texas and New Mexico in October. I wanted to turn my back on the media circus and convey what was happening in real time, in different communities as the election clock counted down to 5th November. My subjects were to be Voters. I have covered the Politicians only by a display of TV screenshots as the Georgia and national picture evolved at the back.
What will you find here? The Economy was the top election issue. I went in search of some of the less prosperous communities suffering most. Here, the rise of homelessness seemed inescapable. For balance, I went to explore the more affluent rural counties with Republican voting roots. Immigration was the second election issue. I found the Hispanic people to gauge views. Polls also talked about race as a barrier to the White House. I asked for the black community’s take.
