232 miles. Perhaps 30% of the UK’s population live within its reach. A place of work for some. A place of leisure for others. From a Cotswold spring to a mighty river. The centre piece of one of the world’s greatest cities. Just don’t drink it.
For many years, I have lived within 2 miles of the THAMES. Ever-present, almost silent, it is easy to take the river for granted. In more recent times as I took-up photography, the THAMES often seemed to be the backdrop to so many of my images.
As the idea of a THAMES eBook arose, it became evident there were so many locations I had either never seen or photographed. At the east end, the Thames Barrier. At the western end, its modest source – small but so symbolic. I began day trips to fill the gaps and join the dots. While the western flows are beautiful my narrative was to be about the people of the river. Inevitably then, the approaches to and through the capital are covered most widely.
Here then are my THAMES people. All walks of life united by one waterway.
